Skydive South Africa Southern Tip

Outdoor Parachuting Classic #5 - Skydive South Africa Southern tip

Arniston, South Africa, is a small picturesque fishing village that is named after a sailing ship that in 1815 sunk on a reef just north-east of Cape Agulhas - the southernmost tip of South Africa. It was on the way to England, coming from Ceylon with a large number of wounded soldiers and was missing the necessary instrument to navigate safely. Only six out of the 378 souls on board lived to tell the story. The village is flanked by two nature reserves containing a large variety of ground, air and sea wildlife. Miles of empty beaches, dunes, caves and a great viticulture surround this location. Arniston is the core location of our event Skydive South Africa Southern tip.

There is usually not a drop zone in Arniston. For the first time, we are combining forces with the Parachute Association of South Africa to set up a base from which we will do excursions using a Cessna 182 to experience this unique landscape and landmarks. We aim to land on and perhaps even take off from several different locations during the five days of jumping which are surrounded by another few days of exploring the Cape Town area together. The dive plan of the skydives will focus on the group experience and history of the landscape combined with landing your parachutes on another place than the aircraft took off from. A bus, fitting everyone on the event will cater for the transportation of the group around Africa's southernmost tip. For example, the bus will take us on the opening peninsula tour, it will take us home from the wine tasting and it will take us home from the shark diving experience.

The event is hosted by Will Penny and Johannes Bergfors who both will immortalise the event through still and video cameras on ground and in air. There are six slots open for participants and they will first be offered to participants of the three previous Skyfari events and if any remain we will open the registration to the public.

It is the first time there will be skydiving arranged like this in South Africa and because of the small event size we can and will have to be very dynamic in our decision making of where to go and how to plan our week. We will together find solutions for the logistical challenges that might arise. We are in Africa and we’re setting up our own temporary DZ, bringing in the aircraft, drivers, fueler and ground crew who all are also staying with our group. If you are up for experiencing this region with us from ground, air and sea we are very excited to have you with us.
